WELCOME TO LE MANS COUPES THE OFFICIAL SOLE AGENT FOR THE ICONIC SUPERFORMANCE AND HI TECH AUTOMOTIVE RANGE OF CARS IN THE UK AND IRELAND.
Le Mans Coupes was founded by Nigel Hulme in 2003 following a chance meeting with Jim Price of Hi Tech Automotive in Charlotte, Carolina. Nigel is well known in the historic racing circles for his successful exploits in both Lola T70’s and the world famous Le Mans Cobra ‘39PH’. When in Charlotte, he was invited to drive the Superformance MK3 and instantly recognised the quality of the build and drive of the car.
Having been so impressed with the car, and upon hearing news of the upcoming Shelby Daytona Cobra (then known as the Daytona Cobra Coupe) Nigel became the UK agent.
Initially importing the Shelby Daytona Cobra Nigel grew the offering to include the Shelby sanctioned Superformance MKIII, GT40P/2000 series continuation GT40, Corvette Grand Sport and the LMC MKII with more cars to be added to the portfolio as the opportunity arises.

SUPERFORMANCE – RELIVING HISTORY TODAY
‘Superformance chassis’ are the only Cobra replica’s on the market that are Shelby Licensed products. According to Shelby “Fact is, soon as it’s less than a real Cobra, not built by me, it’s counterfeit. There’s an exception when it comes Superformance. Superformance International makes the replica Cobra in South Africa and calls the two-seat roadster they build the MKIII. It’s still not a true Shelby, but I’ve endorsed and licensed the car for being as close to correct and well-built as possible. I can’t say the same for others.” – Octane Reference
When Shelby first commissioned AC Cars of England to build the CSX in 1962 it was the same factory setup and tradition that Superformance continues to uphold in our factory. AC employees hand welded each tube into place on the Cobra chassis, Superformance maintains that same attention to detail in every chassis we produce. Chassis were painstakingly hand built, just as they are today in our facilities.
Once the chassis were completed at the AC facility they were brought across the ocean and the power train was installed at the Shelby American Factory. Superformance maintains the same process in that our chassis are brought across the ocean and have their engines and transmissions installed in the United kingdom, and all other territories around the world, by master mechanics.

ABOUT THE FACTORY
Hi-Tech Automotive the manufacturer of the Superformance rolling chassis is dedicated and committed to quality and detail making Superformance products the most sought after component rollers in the U.S. and UK market. The Hi-Tech facility is over 400,000 square foot and has more than 600 highly trained skilled craftsmen making it one of the largest specialized auto manufacturing plants in the world.
In less than ten years, the Superformance plant (HI-TECH Automotive) grew from a modest 3,000 square foot shed into the third largest specialized auto manufacturing plant in the world. Jim Price’s dedication and commitment to quality and detail has made his Superformance products one of the most sought after component vehicles in the world.
Although most of Hi-Tech’s output are exact replicas of vintage sports cars of the sixties, the under-the-skin technology is twenty first century with all brand new parts.
High quality component vehicles can only assume the quality of their parts and how they are assembled.
It all begins as an idea, the Superformance Coupe was conceived as a thought just like the MKIII. Starting from drawings and sketches from designers like Peter Brock, to actual full size complete component vehicles.
Every component is created dimensionally perfect in CAD, and is then recreated once again in the real world with our computer controlled lathes and milling machines.
Superformance quality is a product of collaboration from the best of the best in each field of expertise.
Superformance dedicates a large amount of space to the birth of their composite bodies. Composite body panels are hand-laid onto their corresponding moulds. A gel coat is sprayed onto these moulds to ensure even thickness and to eliminate pimples and porosity.
Superformance uses isolathic polyester resins for the best possible quality and durability.
Where the body shells carry loads, they are reinforced with steel bars or panels. Bodies are matched and fitted perfectly before going through their next step.
Before painting occurs, the surface of every body produced by Superformance is carefully prepared for painting before it reaches the paint shop. After the laminated composites are properly oven cured, each body spends at least two days being hand and machine rubbed and polished.
Painting a car body is not a job for enthusiastic amateurs. How the end product is going to look depends on how the body is prepared for painting, and even more important, the paint process itself and the environment in which the painting and curing will take place.
Superformance recently completed constructing a multiple booth paint shop, each with its own in-line oven, located in a climate controlled and dust-filtered environment.
Superformance uses a twin-pack urethane base coat-clear coat system and each body and component is hand-sprayed by highly qualified and experienced spray painters.
After painting and baking, each body is flattened with 2000 grade flatting paper. The bodies are then machine and hand polished to the tough, gleaming surface finish that is the most visual quality of a Superformance car.
Superformance bodies are also non-stressed, so they will never show pit marks, print-through or stress marks.
Superformance pays as much attention to the fabrication and welding of their chassis’ as they do in every other component of their products.
Chassis’ are welded to precise tolerances in a heavy jig, allowing the master welder of each chassis to control the dimensional integrity of each chassis.
After each chassis is constructed to perfect form, all “rough spots” are grinded and filed.
The chassis’ are then put on the production line waiting to be hand painted and coated. The chassis’ are now ready for their components.
Superformance fabricates most of its components in-house.
Specially formulated brass is extruded to Superformance specifications and the frame of windscreens are hand fabricated and chromed.
Superformance uses genuine German automotive leather for the seats fabricated in the trim shop.
Exhaust headers are welded to aircraft quality specifications, according to the engine specified by the buyer.
Superformance also fabricates their own radiators, fuel tanks and numerous other components. TIG welding is used wherever racing car or aircraft quality components are specified.
This is where the component vehicles start coming together.
All mechanical parts are fitted to the chassis before the body is placed into position. A special jig holds the body in precise alignment from the measuring points on all four wheel arches.
The technicians then bond and rivet the finished body to the chassis full of components.
Flexible urethane adhesive is used to bond the body to the chassis, eliminating “print through” distortion and stress cracks.
Superformance pride continues throughout the whole process, but intends to grow here when the final product begins to come alive.
Headlamps are assembled and attached as well as completing the wiring, affixing the windscreen, roll bar etc.
A senior assembler (10 plus years experience) trains hand picked workers with the head of operations. Quality control also inspects all progress to ensure all production standards are maintained, no watches, rings, phones, belt buckles or loose items are allowed in the assembly hall.
All that hard work finally payed off. The beautiful, reliable Superformance component vehicle is born!
Superformance stands apart in almost every aspect, from the quality of a factory line assembly to the precise fabrication of aircraft quality parts.
Superformance constructs quality race ready component vehicles that can be driven comfortably on the road and the track. No matter the size of engine waiting for your chosen Superformance car, it will handle it like a dream!
Our commitment in time and money to a modern, high-tech, 400,000 sq foot factory and more than 600 highly trained skilled craftsman (some of whom are pictured outside the plant below) have made Superformance the largest and best equipped replica and continuation car manufacturer in the world .
