GT40P/2249 SOLD - Le Mans Coupes

GT40P/2249 SOLD

The iconic 1966 Le Mans 24 hours needs no introduction. The Ford GT40 MKIIs dominated the race with a historic 1, 2, 3. The first of four consecutive wins for the Blue oval at Le Sarthe and a savage blow to the prancing horses of Ferrari.

Despite the dominance, controversy still reigns over the result. If you are not yet familiar with the reasons, it is well documented that the No. 1 car, driven by Miles / Hulme, was firmly in the lead yet the spoils went to the No. 2 GT40 of Amon / McLaren. Ironically, it is owing to this cruel twist of fate, coupled with the compelling story of Ken Miles, that the No. 1 car is now as infamous and iconic, if not more so, than its victorious brother. So much so that the Hollywood Blockbuster “Le Mans ‘66” aka “Ford Vs Ferrari” was commissioned to bring the story to the big screen.

When sourcing cars for the film, the producers wanted a car as accurate to the original as possible. Enter Superformance. Superformance GT40s are built from the original drawings and are in fact GT40s in their own rights – they are eligible for the Shelby World Registry and carry GT40P chassis numbers. The hero car driven at Le Mans in the film was in fact a Superformance car.

Since the film, the popularity of the MKII GT40 in the UK has been on a sharp rise yet, before the Hollywood glory, a cult following already existed. This is evident when GT40P/ 2249 was built to replicate GT40P/ 1015.

Available for immediate sale, GT40P/ 2249 replicated the Miles / Hulme Le Mans icon closely yet is useable for the UK roads.
