THE GT40 THAT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE A LE MANS WINNER – RECREATION, CONTINUATION, REPLICA.

Le Mans Coupes GT40

Having recently had a MK2 GT40 come up for sale, we thought it a great time to share this review of one of our cars over in the USA. We hope you enjoy it.Recreation, continuation, replica. Call it what you like, but there’s no doubting that the Superformance GT40 looks like a multi-million pound racing car. That’s because it’s pretty much an accurate doppelgänger for the car that Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren took to victory in the 1966 Le Mans 24-hour.

Visually, at least. There are some differences. The body is GRP with a pressed steel roof rather than the original car’s aluminium, and there’s a small block V8 in place of the original’s big block (although you have the choice of both). What that means, though, is that this car is $180,000 rather than the seven figures asked for some other recreations.

And really, when it looks, sounds and performs this well, are you going to quibble about fibreglass panels? DRIVETRIBE’s Jethro Bovingdon isn’t…
